Teambuilding Activities and Challenges
Highland Lake Inn has developed several new teambuilding events to enhance your next corporate retreat:
Grape Escapes Teambuilding: Test your team's marketing skills and learn a little bit about wine at the same time. One of our wine representatives and in house wine expert will put on a demonstration for your group. You will learn about two types of wine. You are buying a vineyard so you need a new marketing campaign for your wine. Each team will be given a certain type of wine they need to create a label for. To get the wine to market they must put together a presentation for the judging committee. It includes a slogan, jingle, and commercial advertisement. Each team will present to the judging committee. The judges will give points for best label, presentation and teamwork.
Cooking Team Class: Learn new cooking skills and improve communication and teamwork while preparing a three-course meal with the help of one of our culinary experts and your co-workers. The group will work together to prepare a three-course Chef's Choice Lunch or Dinner. The group will be split into three groups, each responsible for a different course of the meal. The group, with the exception of using knives, use will create the meal from scratch. The chef will be responsible for any use of knives for liability purposes. Once all the meals are plated, the group will have their meal (with wine pairings if requested, at an additional charge). Group members will receive recipes of the selections prepared.
Garden Tour and Cooking Class: The group will be given a guided tour of Highland Lake Inn's Organic Gardens by the resident gardener. The tour will include discussions of the benefit of organic gardening over using pesticides and growth enhancers. The tour will be followed by a cooking demonstration by one of our fine chefs. A glass of wine is included and paired to match the entrée. Group members will receive recipes of the lunch selections.
Golf Clinic: Instant replay core strengthening system develops better posture, tempo and power. Many golf professionals, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and strength conditioning coaches have utilized this system to enhance the athlete to his or her capacity. Gary Thiry physical therapist is the owner of Pisgah Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab. Martin Greedy, golf professional and fitness coordinator at Physical Therapy & Sports Rehab, will work together with Gary Thiry, to perform a functional test evaluation to discover all weakness with in the body. Following the evaluations, they will maximize your weakness through individualized specific core training.

OWLS: (Outdoor Wilderness Leadership School): Corporate Learning Center builds stronger businesses by building stronger relationships. Each unique program is designed to help employees, managers, and executives develop and hone important business-related skills, such as motivating others, setting goals, taking calculated risks, and communicating within a group. WILDWATER LTD.: Wildwater's Whitewater River Olympiad's activities are designed to add excitement, team challenge and additional fun to your rafting experience with Wildwater. Activities are based on requests from groups looking for new and unique challenges and programs for their groups. Wildwater has facilitated this program for corporate groups, sales teams, family reunions and incentive travel groups. The program is typically a custom-designed experience geared towards the group's goals and budget.
Fly Fishing Lessons from DAVIDSON RIVER OUTFITTERS: We have a very diverse fishery located on the banks of the Davidson River. It takes us about 5 minutes to get you into a fishing position on the Davidson. There are no other shops that get you on the stream that quickly. While the Davidson is our home, we also fish most all of the waters in Western North Carolina. Because of this diversity, we are able to offer a variety of trips that suit your needs. Our guides will work hard to accommodate your fishing desires. They don't work office hours--they work on fish time. If you need to make a dinner engagement, let your guide know so that he can make plans on having you back on time. Also, if you want to start later in the day and fish to dark, or earlier, so that you can beat the heat, let your guide know. Most of the time in the summer our guides leave the shop at 5:30 am, so you can experience the best fishing of the day.
